Castleford Tigers Women are pleased to announce that they have appointed forward Maisie Lumb as their vice-captain!

Lumb has been involved in the Tigresses setup for a number of years and is an experienced Betfred Women’s Super League player, making her debut with the Fords at just 16 years of age.  She had a stint at Wheldon Road for a season in 2019, before stepping back to focus on her education. The loose forward rejoined the club to be part of Matty Faulkner’s squad for the 2022 campaign and has been a standout performer so far this season, scoring a hat-trick in the women’s most recent fixture.

Touching on the announcement, Lumb spoke of her delight of being named vice-captain of the club she knows so well.

“It feels great to be named as vice-captain for the team who I grew up with. The team have been so welcoming since I joined again in April.”

The 20-year-old had a successful spell at Cas the first time around, winning the League Leaders Shield with the Tigresses in 2019. Lumb reflected on what was an unforgettable season and also stated what it would mean to have that success again with her hometown club in the future.

“It was the best thing ever, winning that shield, at the time I just couldn’t believe we’d won it. To be able to do something like that again with this club, it would be amazing and that’s what we are all aiming for.”

Faulkner’s side are still striving for their first victory of this term, however, the last couple of fixtures have seen improved performances and in closing, Lumb claimed that there is a good feeling in the camp and thanked the fans for their support this season.

“We all get on so well, even after half a season together, we all get on together really well. That togetherness is definitely going to help us in terms of getting that first win. Thank you for your support this season, it’s great to see so many people backing us this year!”

Next up for the Tigresses is a local derby against Featherstone Rovers at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle on Sunday. Kick-off is scheduled for 2pm, entry is FREE for Tigers Members and for Under 16’s, and it’s £5 for everyone else so make sure to get down and back the girls!
