Castleford Tigers Foundation and Andy’s Man Club are thrilled to announce a partnership centered around challenging the stigmas in men’s mental health.

From Monday, 15th November, Andy’s Man Club will hold a free, open talking group for 18+ year old men at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle every Monday at 7pm.

Castleford Tigers Foundation and Andy’s Man Club will provide a relaxed, safe environment for men to talk about their issues under the philosophy that “It’s okay to talk”, as the men’s mental health charity has made their principle.

Andy’s Man Club was founded back in 2016 by former rugby league player Luke Ambler in the wake of his brother-in-law tragically taking his own life.

In the five years that have followed AMC operates groups at over 65 locations around the UK, with over 250 volunteers offering peer-to-peer support groups, and Castleford Tigers’ home at Wheldon Road is proud to be one of their group locations.

It comes at a time of need too, on average in the UK one man takes his own life every two hours, with suicide being the biggest killer of men under 50. A common perception that leads to such scary statistics is that men do not open up and talk. Castleford Tigers Foundation and Andy’s Man Club are tackling that stigma in our local area with our weekly Monday groups, mental health problems are not necessary either – it is all about getting men talking.

Community Director at Castleford Tigers Foundation, Simon Fox said: “Working together with Andy’s Man Club will allow Castleford Tigers Foundation to take a huge step further forward with our community’s mental health provision.

“Following a difficult period for so many people within our local area, our group sessions at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle offers a safe place for men to come have a cup of tea and a chat about anything and everything.

“With the full support of the Club’s Welfare & Education Manager, Keith Lambeth, who is a fully registered mental health nurse, I’m certain our group sessions here at Castleford Tigers will help support plenty of men in their time of need.”

Founder of Andy’s Man Club, Luke Ambler said: “I’m delighted that Castleford Tigers are partnering with us at Andy’s Man Club. They are one of growing number of quality organisations to partner with us and this can only help in our aim of reaching #THATONEMAN.

“With my background in rugby league, it’s always nice to see that community getting involved and together we can show the men of Castleford that #ItsOkayToTalk.”
