Over the past few months, Castleford Tigers Foundation staff have been helping partner school Aberford Primary gear up for this year’s Skipping School competition!
The event was held at Armley Leisure Centre with schools from across the region taking part in the Year 2 competition.
Skipping School’s aim is to inspire and engage children to get active and have fun, and to create sustainable activity levels and boost self-esteem, with inter-school events being held across various age groups each year.
The Aberford students were tasked with a team skip as well as various individual challenges which varied in difficulty and they well and truly rose to the challenge, picking up bronze for their brilliant team skip as well as plenty of the children claiming individual awards along the way.
Looking back on their fantastic efforts, Michaela Anderson, who was one of the Tigers’ Foundation staff who had been working hard on getting the children ready for their big moment, stated that she was overjoyed by how they performed on the day.
“It was a fantastic morning with six other schools competing. Aberford performed amazingly, and Laura and I are so proud of each and every one of them. All the kids joined in with the warmups and were really supportive by cheering on the individual skippers during their events.
“They did really well in the team skip challenge as well and finished in a brilliant bronze position which was fantastic considering there were a lot of year one pupils in the team. There were a number of Aberford pupils who gained individual medals and certificates for their outstanding skipping skills.
“What a great event and we cannot wait until next year!”
Aberford Primary’s year 3 and 4 classes are next to take up the Skipping School challenge as they are taking part in the event at Boston Spa coming up on the 4th of July and everyone at the Tigers wishes them the best of luck!
