Castleford Tigers Women are delighted to confirm the signing of forward Laura Stanworth who will join up with the Tigresses squad for this season!
The 36-year-old joins the Women’s team with a wealth of experience behind her after running out for the likes of Selby Warriors and Oulton Raidettes over the years, as well as a stint playing rugby union.
When asked about how happy she was to be joining the Fords, Stanworth declared that she is eager to get back on the field again after a couple of years away from the game.
“I am really excited to be fair! It’s always something that I wanted to do after I thought my rugby career would be over after having children. I really wanted to come in and give it my best shot.
“It’s been nice meeting new people and getting back out there on the field. It’s been a good challenge for me to come back and getting my fitness back up. It has been something I have really enjoyed doing.”
Stanworth is the latest of a number of exciting new additions to the Tigers squad for the 2022 Super League campaign and the forward explained that there is a good feeling around the pack as she has been welcomed with open arms from players and coaches alike.
“When moving to any club you always have those thoughts about if you are going to be welcomed or not, but the girls have been really lovely. They have all been welcoming and excepting of a new player coming in.
“The atmosphere is friendly, but we all put the work in, and we all bounce off each other. Matty (Faulkner) is really supportive and welcoming of any suggestions. Any concerns you have, he comes and sees you straight away.”
Sunday’s match against Bradford Bulls could be the moment that Stanworth makes her first-ever Women’s Super League appearance and in closing, the latest signing put forward that it is a landmark in which she has worked hard to reach.
“It’s an exciting moment in my career and it’s a point in my career that I wanted to get to. I’ve finally got the chance to do it, so I am going to give it my best. I am just going to take it one step at a time this season.”
