The Castleford Tigers PDRL team kick off their season this weekend at Robin Park in Wigan. After a fantastic season last campaign, and a brilliant 9 game winning streak, the team will be looking to build on their achievements in 2023.
After a successful World Cup campaign for England, which included two of the Castleford Tigers PDRL players, the PDRL form of Rugby League has gone from strength to strength. After some fantastic coverage from both the BBC and Channel 4, the team at the Tigers has grown, something which Nick Kennedy is over the moon to see.
“Off the back of some coverage on National TV, hopefully we’ll get a few more. We’ve already had some new faces down and they’re integrating with the squad really well. It’s good to get people down whether they have experience or not. Some people in the team now, until coming to Cas Tigers PDRL, had never picked up a Rugby ball in their lives. The coaches here, they’re amazing. They’ll help new people through everything and get players comfortable and up to a standard in which they can compete and enjoy the game of Rugby League.”
Mark Gummerson was also involved in the World Cup winning side for England and enjoyed the experience on international duty. Now that pre-season is about to be over and the competition hotting up with the growth in the game, Mark can’t wait to get going with Castleford once again.
“I can’t wait to get going this season. I’m really looking forward to it and I want to get stuck in as much as I can. The whole team can’t wait and I’m definitely ready and raring to go.”
It was announced just a short while ago that Jamie Beards will step up and be the head coach of the PDRL side, assisted by Anthony ‘Tosh’ Summerfield. Jamie is keen to get more wins under the team’s belt and kick on in 2023, but believes the help of volunteers is critical to the team’s success.
“Volunteers are massive. Without them, it wouldn’t happen. As any coach knows that you can’t run anything single handedly so without the volunteers and people giving up their time, the team wouldn’t be possible.”
