Paws pleased to be back dancing on the field!

It was amazing to see Castleford Tigers Foundation’s Paws dance troops back out on the field for the first time in 2022 on Monday when the Tigers took on Leeds Rhinos recently!

An incredible number of over 80 children performed across all the age groups prior to kick-off as they entertained the crowd with their brilliant dance moves and energy.

The Paws dancers are a massive part of the matchday experience at The Jungle and Tigers Foundation’s Community Dance Development Officer, Michaela Anderson, spoke of her delight at seeing her young stars back performing on The Jungle turf.

“It was lovely having them back on the field! It was a nice sunny day and we had over 80 kids dance on the day. We have four different age groups, tiny paws, juniors, intermediates, and seniors who then can progress to our professional dance squad, the Claws.

“We had all their families down and they stay to watch the game, so they really enjoy coming to watch the dancing and then the game afterwards. Having the opportunity to dance in front of so many people is great because we always get a good crowd when we play Leeds and with the weather being nice it was a good experience for them.

“We always want them to enjoy the experience as well as performing in front of the crowd.”

The dance classes don’t just play a crucial role in keeping the children active but also in terms of their personal development and interacting with others they wouldn’t normally speak to.

In closing, Anderson reaffirmed this and relayed just how much the dancers love coming down to dance with their friends, by saying: “It’s a big part in the kids’ lives coming down to dance and meeting their friends as well as doing some exercise.

“They get to see kids from other schools as well and not just their own schools so it’s great for them to socialise and meet new friends from different areas. After having to stop because of Covid I think the parents have realised just how much the children have missed it and the numbers have grown week on week.”

The sessions run down at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle every Wednesday and age groups and timings are below:
