Last week Castleford Tigers reported that Fords Physical Disability Rugby League player Mark Gummerson needed to raise £500 to help with the cost involved to achieve his England World Cup dream as the game comes under the England Lions Community Game, where funding is limited.

Thankfully due to the incredible support shown over the past few days, Mark has been able to smash his target by reaching a fantastic £995 worth of donations!

Also, after hearing Gummerson’s story, the Castleford Tigers Supporters Club showed incredible generosity to gift £300 towards the tally, something Mark claimed he is immensely thankful for.

“I reached out to Mat Lancaster who is one of the coaches of our PDRL team here at Cas and he got me in touch with Adam from the media team who did a phone interview with me and wrote a report and that got loads of interest.

“There were people I hadn’t heard from for a while who got in touch with me, and a lot of family and friends have helped. Within two days we reached the target, so it was great. It’s been very welcoming to see how much it means to people and it’s amazing that the supporters club have donated that much money. It’s something that will be a massive help.”

Gummerson’s England get their tournament underway against rivals Australia on Sunday the 23rd of October at Victoria Park in Warrington which is going to be an occasion that Mark is eagerly anticipating.

“I’m massively excited for it to start because it’s a huge opportunity and I can’t wait to get going.”

When formed in 2004, the Castleford Tigers Supporters Club’s aim was to develop a closer and strong relationship between the rugby league club and its supporters, raising the profile of all aspects of the club, offering support, and raising funds.

Over the years the CTSC have kindly donated funds to all aspects of the club from the Youth Department to Watt Bikes, and Paul Burns-Williamson, Secretary of Castleford Tigers Supporters Club, put forward that they were more than happy to help Mark with his quest of making it to the World Cup.

“We were over the moon that Mark had got selected for the World Cup and when we heard the news about him needing a donation, we had a committee meeting and wanted to give him £300. We really hope he has a great tournament whether he starts or comes off the bench, I am sure he will have a great week and a great tournament.”

Castleford Tigers and Castleford Tigers Foundation would like to thank the CTSC and everyone who showed their support for Mark!
