The Tigers popped by The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract on Tuesday to help with their Christmas preparations and to spread some festive cheer!

Last year marked the return of the Club’s annual visit to our charity partner due to the Covid-19 pandemic and it was brilliant to be able to have even more of the squad involved on this occasion to help spread a bit of Christmas cheer to the staff and patients.

The players’ first port of call on the day was to put up the hospice’s gazebos in preparation for their ‘Light Up A Life’ event, which is a poignant service as it provides an opportunity for families and friends to remember those no longer with us over Christmas time.

The likes of Gareth Widdop, Greg Eden, Joe Westerman, and Nathan Massey then headed inside to brighten up the staff and patients’ day, including putting a smile on a few Cas fans’ faces along the way.

Reflecting on a busy day, Cas back Jack Broadbent explained that he’s enjoyed being involved in community engagements in his first week at the Club.

“I think it’s great that we can come out in the community and give back. It’s only my first week but it’s great to already be out and about and getting involved.

“A few of the boys were saying that the club come down here every year to help out so it’s great that we can do it and I think we did it in record time this year! It’s good to meet some of the staff as well and find out about the work they do which has been great.”

Fundraising Manager at the hospice, Adrian Greenwood, added how grateful he and the staff are to the players for boosting the patients’ morale on the day.

“It’s a massive help to have them help prep for our Light Up A Life event this year. A few of the players went into see the patients because it gives them a bit of a boost being able to see them and talk to them.”
